Castle Amber part 4

Skrogg’s Journal – Chapter 33

As the heroes continued to search the next door rooms, a room with four holes were found in the roof. Kurin standing on the shoulders of Thorsgrim managed to investigate the holes and discovered a sack of money. Followed by a cockatrice that attempted to turn him into stone, and then with the resounding noise, a swarm of killer bees attacked the ever so delicious Skrogg. With much hacking most of the bees were slain before more emerged from another hole as a sleep spell put the creatures to early sleep. The cockatrice was slain by Kurin who had attempted to hit it and fell off Thorsgrim in amazement. It’s beak and legs were saved for magical spell components. It’s drumsticks and Breast were saved by the ever hungry Skrogg. Skrogg soon proved his worth by burying himself in the killer bees nest eating all the honey.

A chapel room was discovered with a smiling priest, he stood calmly and seemingly in a good voice “May I help you”. However, our surprisingly noble Paladin identified that this man was indeed evil and strode forth and before the man intending to do us harm could react, smote him mightily and cast him down with two mighty blows of the spell casting slaying sword. A potion, ring of protection, magical broom and staff were found. Some secret doors were found by Sven.

The party returned to the main chapel and walking past the one of the statues it suddenly moved and out of thin air presented Skrogg a beautiful magical shortbow. Much joy rang out, but as Kurin approached another expecting a mighty present he was touched and began to turn to amber stone. A cure disease removed the impediment and saved his life. The statues now revealed as more random nastiness were avoided to where the side rooms were investigated. Of the 6 rooms each seemed to hold 3 zombies, but were immediately turned to ash under the power of Thor. Returning the the main chapel Kurin and Azimi walked past every statue to discover what gifts were given Kurin was blessed with a permanent blessing and received a magical undersea boat appearing out of nothing, plus a scroll of protection from elementals. Azimi was magically diseased (and cured by the staff held by Thorsgrim), and then felt more dexterous. Skrogg the lucky was presented with another magical flying broom. What an odd room!

The heroes continued through the forest and began to search the area behind the blood stained arch throne room to find a ball room. Inside was a monkey man that was shot by Sven as the party began to search his treasure. His treasure consisted of a Bag of Unending Nourishment that was immediately claimed by the ever fat Skrogg and a Potion of Longevity.

Next was discovered a library, and a dog man who appeared to be good. In payment of 5000gp (with borrowed money) the library was searched to discover a magic user scroll with 5 spells and most importantly a scroll of “To those who would be free”. The scroll mentioned something about find that would help them be free needing a special, sword, ring, mirror and potion. The heroes left the dog man still counting his coins.

An empty bedroom was discovered, but held some random lava men who were slain quickly. Azimi guarded the corridor, standing on the lovely red carpet.

Next was a card room where a woman was sitting offereing 10 cards. The words Deck of Many things were mentioned. In random sillyness everyone was “forced” to take a card.

Azimi most reluctantly received a magical wand of Enemy detection

A bedroom containing 8 humanoid dog people were discovered, but the party was attacked, Sven stayed outside and missed with his heavy crossbow as the others were slain quickly or put to sleep. However the lupin man from the library heard his “pack” being attacked and moved to slay the obvious target Sven. Sven wounded him but a single smash in return reminded him to call for help as magical missiles and blades cut this dog fighter fellow down quickly. Some money and yet another displacer cloak and wand of fireballs were discovered and used by Prince Thorsgrim.

At the end of the hallway was the foyer were six gremlins standing around. To avoid silliness these were fireballed with the previously found wand and their smoking corpses we left lying on the ground.

Castle Amber part 3

As the heroes debated to where to go it was decided to go through the bloody dripping arch. Everyone avoided any nasty effects from the blood to come across a throne rooms full of skeletons. Ragnar most wisely used his detect evil to sense that the throne itself was evil and was apparently attacking the mage Azimi with some kind of mental attack. Thorsgrim used his Dispel Evil spell to completely destroy the presence in the throne. The room was searched to discover a valuable crown.

Several more room were searched. A white room contained a six legged beast, causing a large amount of frost. Ragnar, Skrogg and Kurin strode forth and did splat the beast quickly. Kurin received some wounds in return, but a pile of platium and gold were found nearby.

The next green room had a green knight who offered a sword and it wast taken by Ragnar. As Kurin attempted to go past but was struck by a sword in return. As Everyone piled on in swinging meaningfully and bolts of power flew from Azimi, it was Ragnar swinging with the sword seemed to struck sweetly removed the green Knights head’s form his shoulder with a single hit. Everyone was a slightly surprised. The green knight guarded the entrance to the lower levels where the heroes descended.

A room with words written on the floor was discovered, Azimi volunteered to go first and quickly discovered that she was wiser, but unfortunately it took a lot of convincing to ask the heroes to cross the same way and receive the same blessing. Thorsgrim, Skrogg, Kurin, Stargard all took the opportunity to become wiser. Ragnar refused to listen and used the opposite to become more beautiful, even gaining a cleft in his chin as his hair seemed to change colour. Git!

On the other side was a dungeon where the group didn’t both entering in the dungeon that contained a minatour and a possible werewolf staring at a painted moon.

Carrying on through a door as decided by Kurin a room full of Vats was discovered. 4 grey skinned men appeared between the vats and began to approach menacingly. Kurin, Skrogg and Ragnar strode up. The figure attacking Ragnar lightning bolted him, leaving a rebounding lightning bolt to damage him effectively. Skrogg got jumped by a grey man who wrapped his legs aground Skrogg and began to spray him with which only could be described as acidic seaman, much to the disgust of everyone else. Kurin was missed, as was Thorsgrim who appeared to move last but splat his grey skin thing quickly. Azimi magically missiled the lightning man, only to watch it be cut in twain by Ragnar. Kurin Slew his beast and only Skrogg only seemed to be less than effective being squirted by more acid seaman again. As all the beasts were destroyed the party entered the next door.

Inside was a laboratory, upon entering everyone noticed that the doors shut and a black smoke filled the room. A decision to use a scroll of portals was used to attempt to exit. Unfortunately, Raganar succumbed to the dust and collapsed alseep, as did Kurin who likewise fell asleep as he attempted to rescue Ragnar. As the party emerged from the black dust Kurin appeared saying that he had dreamed that he was imprisoned and then released by a mage as he appeared at the entrance. Ragnar likewise appeared saying that he was attacked by a vampire (and had two teeth mouth’s points attached to his neck). Ragnar carried a staff that looked magical and looked diminished. The party continued up a long corridor only to lead to a trap door.

The Trap door emerged in a chapel with statues of the Ambervilles nearby. A door to the back was discovered and passageway with three Thouls who attacked and were quickly slain. Inside the nearest door was a library and a mage type fella who said “shhhh”. Before anyone could do anything a woman who looked to buried alive arrived and begun to attack him. He suddenly vanished as she was subdued by Skrogg. The party began to search the room only to find a chest. As it was attempted to open the mage reappeared only to cast a illusionary fireball that confused Ragnar briefly. The Mage was attacked with the blunt end of the sword by Skrogg and then by Kurin who knocked him unconscious. A magical ring was discovered and Analyzed by Azimi who claimed it was a ring of spell turning.

Castle Amber part 2

After resting from their drunk state entered the room next door to discover a boxing ring had been set up with a individual with a wide brimmed hat and silly mustashe who offered a PC a fight with one of his boxes who had grey coloured skin. Some floating eyeballs above the chairs watching the ring turned to stare at the PC’s when they arrived. Brother Stargard was selected after the man offered 10,000gp if the PC could win. Brother Stargard didn’t disappoint by stepping foward and giving the old 1 2 dropping the creature dead within half a round. A clap went to Brother Stargard who proved his challenge easily. The man a D’Amberville was amazed that his creature was defeated, ever so quickly and paid the required sum in gems. The Heroes left considerably richer.

Looking for a secret door in the madam ogres room (previously slain by Ragnar) the party were almost all surprised by 4 tigers that decided to attack. The beasts hit Azimi and Sven before being slain in a most purposeful manner by the combined efforts of the fighters. The beasts tried retreating, only to be slain. The door was closed by Azimi who realized the mistake of not closing the door. A secret door was discovered by Sven.

Inside was a 8’ man with a head of a lion, wearing platemail, golden sword and crown. Azimi stood still and evaluated the crown. He challenged the party for a 1 on 1 and Kurin strode forth to do his part. After wounding the man mightily Kurin was struck down. Shock emerged on the faces of the Heroes as Azimi shot the lion man dead with her wand of magic missiles. Thorsgrim was forced to use a Cureall spell to restore Kurin who was only partially dead, but now has another impressive scar.

The party exited out of the castle wing to find themselves in the central part where it was apparent forest had been magically created. The heroes decided to walk the path and avoid some obvious annoying plant life. Unfortunately, some trees with ropy vines attacked and initially had the vines cut away only to return to drag poor Skrogg towards a tree mouth. Azimi used her wand of magical enemy detection to spot not 4, but 6 trees. The heroes embarked on a series of tree hack and slay. Once the party managed to move through the thick undergrowth the trees were hacked and hewed most effectively. A special note to Brother Stargard who deflect many attacking vines from both the prince and queen.

A maiden and a unicorn were soon discovered who was spoken too most fairly by Sir Ragnar (the galant) and the maiden (who might have been a green dragon) revealed that she didn’t know the way out of the mists, but would return with the heroes if a way could be found. She warned them about the fountain further up the path.

Further up the A Bridge was discovered with a Goat that was speaking to a probable troll and allowed to cross as more delicious people were coming. Ragnar pretending to be a small girl walked across the bridge and said that he was yummy. As the troll climbed up to the bridge looked surprised that it was Ragnar not a we girl. With one almighty heave from the Flaming Axe the beasts head was cut off, slaying the beast immediately. No treasure could be seen, so the heroes continued up the path.

The fountain was detected most severely for evil, magic and enemies. Seeing a glowing shape in the water, Thorsgrim cast Purify Food and Water to show a huge Amoeba in the water. Ragnar summoned the power of Thor and Azimi Lightning Bolted the water several times before Sven stepped in to unlock the chest in the water. The Amoeba never moved as it was slain by either lightning or Purify, but no one knows. Some money and a key was found in the chest.

The heroes continued until it came to some squirrels with golden acorns could be seen. Brother Stargard attempted to communicate only to realise that he was indeed talking to a squirrel. Thorsgrim grabbed a nut only for a horn to sound and a wild hunt to emerge. Two wolfmen riding dire wolves, Two cat men riding sabre tooth tigers and a large goat headed man riding a giant elk. Comedy aside, Sven shot the Goat man with a magical bolt (wounding to continuously bleed), Azimi cast a fireball and then Ragnar cast a hold person. Well the carnage was great with everyone impressed with the size of the fire ball slaying all but one cat, elk and the goat man, who then toppled off the elk frozen. The Elk charged Thorsgrim who then lightning bolted the elk as it charged past with his activated rune. Skrogg was jumped on by the cat who then made the mistake of moving and the singed pussy cat was put down immediately with one swing. The Goat man had bled out due to constant damage and severe burns. A magical mace and potion was found.

The path continued past some obvious dangerous flowers, and grass, but no one was foolish enough to step off the path. At the end of the Path a blood stained arch that would drip blood on you if you stepped through led to another part of the silly castle. So far no one has stepped through. Tis a silly place!

The nature of things
Flying Ships

As the party approached the castle they were immediately impressed with the size of the castle, far exceeding even their most expensive realm holdings.

As they approached the door they were met by a wizard in a hat who after speaking Galantri switched to Common to say that he was Prince D’Amberville and he like the party were trapped in the castle back in time.

They were asked if they could help him escape by gathering the clues in the castle. He said as that this was his family home he absolved them of all crimes and gave them a free range to discover clues to help them escape this time trap. Of course as all these crimes had already happened or were about to happen in the past, they have already happened and therefore, predestination did not apply. Timey Wimey wibbly wobbly!

The Heroes entered the castle proper only to encounter a huge mirrored room where all the lights in the party suddenly went out, The flaming axe was ignited only to cause everyone to become blinded by the flash. Creatures could be heard approaching and were spoken to by Sven the wordsmith. Azimi turned invisible and crawled off to the side somewhere. Eventually the guards got bored and attacked and were beaten back by the unfortunate event of approaching the fighter types. They then started lightning bolting the Halfling and Dwarf who were best equipped to deal with it. Thorsgrim cast Cure blindness and immediately dove in with the mighty hammer cleaving the creatures mightly with puffs of smoke. Everyone was then led by Thorsgrim to wait as their eyesight returned to normal.

The party continued towards a smaller less grand corridor to discover a room with a chest, with green substance on the floor and a black substance over the room. Deciding as experienced adventures that with was a black pudding and green slime it was decided to test it with Ragnar flaming his axe and burning the green slime with and sickly splat covering himself with slime. He began to disove, but the quick thinking of Thorsgrim again saved the day with a Cureall Spell removing the effects of the Green slime. Azimi cast a Protection from Evil spell and then conjured a Fire elemental who dutifully went in burning all up the Green slime and then was attacked by the Black pudding after it dropped down from the roof. A mighty battle occurred with the Black Pudding being burned quickly. The elemental did survey the room and burn up two more Grey oozes as well. Inside the chest was discovered a powerful sword that Sven likes and a Staff of healing that Azimi analyzed. Lots of money was found as well. The elemental was banished as it really wanted to slay the summoner.

The rooms down the corridor were searched to discover some mage spiders that were quickly slain by a throwing hammer, crossbow bolt and a sword wielding Ragnar. Skrogg thought he could hear noises behind him, but was mistaken. A small chest of treasure was found and opened. Inside was a key that could become useful. The next room was an empty closet.

Off the large mirrored hallway (now being shone with a candle) a bedroom was discovered with an ogre dressed as a woman in the bed. Ragnar strode forth and cleaved the beast in twain with one swipe slaying the beast instantly. Azimi won the bed that Kurin and Thorsgrim paid up. A body of the old woman was found up the fireplace. Otherwise empty.

A room containing two wraiths were discovered, but these were destroyed by Thorsgrim with a wave of his hammer and the power of Thor. Outside 11 skeletons randomly turned up only to be destroyed by Ragnar and Thorsgrim. The skeletons basically turned to dust at their sight.

The next room was a ghostly kitchen where the heroes followed the ghostls to a banquet hall where a feast was laid out with named cards for everyone. Only Kurin and Stargard refused to sit and eat. Everyone else tucked in and then the randomness happened. Several courses were eaten each with an effect. Wounds were healed. Hit points given by the soup. Skrogg was now starving, everyone else was now immune to the effects of starvation. Everyone didn’t die and now had +4 saves vs poison. Ragnar could now ESP once a week. And finally the entire group were now as drunk as lords.

The heroes stumbled from the table and room and encounted a room with 12 cat people. After refusing to leave and being drunken belligerent the cat people attacked scratching Azimi, but were all slain in return. As the group were so drunk, no spells could be cast and had large penalties on trying to hit anything. Azimi did actually slay a beast in combat with her staff. Skrogg began to look for chicken as he was hungry and only found money. The group sat down and began to have a short rest as they were quite drunk. Kurin (with eyes rolling) and Stargard stood guard.

Day ends after a brief snooze & Skrogg yet again complaining that he was hungry.

Skrogg’s Journal – Chapter 32

Hard-Ball

The heroes were greeted by an interpreter, who informed them that the Empress would see them tomorrow and they were invited to watch one of the Alphatian ball games. Skrogg took a liking to it.

The next morning with a ceremony to the Empress it was discovered that they were also duped by Zeltor Kerban and his presence was now unknown. Something to do with the immortal Balthac (who apparently wasn’t). At the ceremony they were all rewarded as citizens of Alphatia and sent on their way with a promise to be taken to where ever they wished as soon as they wanted. The heroes were left alone in the city to discover that Ragnar really wanted his Axe mended. Skrogg wanted a Pegasus, and Azimi teleported home (something to do with a memorable date and new year celebrations in Vestland). A week later Azimi returned to see that Skrogg had begun to learn how to ride and look after Pegasus and now was also after training in the short bow. Azimi fronted up with an large sum of monies to be recognized as a noble and also access to the imperial university library and use of a magical spell was able to speak the language of Alphatia.

The Heroes soon departed for home as the heroes were teleported back to their dominions by the wizards of Alphatia. Ragnar returned to his ship and began the journey to sail home. The others returned to their dominions and began to build their forces for the war that somehow was still building.

Soon arriving back at Vestland the heroes got together to discover a plot that the Alphatian Mages were planning to send forth an enormous amount of monsters on Galantri and possibly harm the public. They decided to stop the plot and agreed to teleport there, by Azimi. Azimi cast fly on everyone in case of emergency. Fortunately Skrogg appeared somewhere differently than everyone else and the fly spell saved him. Everyone else was dismayed that they appeared not in Darokin, but in Galantri city itself. After promising that the clerics in the party wouldn’t cast spells (on pain of death in Galantri) and pretend to be fighters (or just a dwarf) the group left the city on horseback into the Galantri mountains to the south. Soon everyone noticed a strange mist approaching that seemed to swollow a pony and dissolve it. They were forced to retreat into a castle nearby.

Skrogg’s Journal – Chapter 31

As Lieutenant Idiot screamed get the boats aloft and prepare to repel the Heldannic Warbird flying ships. The heroes did prepare themselves, Fly, Bless, Protection from Normal Missiles (Dragons) were cast and the heroes did doth divide an send forth with holy wroth against the fell invaders. The flying ship with Thorsgrim, Sven, Skrogg and Stargard did fly toward the closest ship. Azimi powered by a fly spell did fly toward another. Raganar also powered by a fly spell flew towards another ship. Kurin sitting astride the Dragon Hammer did fly toward another ship. Here the battle did break up into a series of encounters.

Kurin sitting astride the beast did fly upwards and onwards, gaining height as the ship continued to fly over the town dropping flaming oil on the innocents below. After half a minute the dragon finally came to a position to attack as several bolts fired from Ballista missed the dragon did swoop down and lay a path of fire 30’ wide and 90’ long across the top of the vessel slaying all who stood in it’s path, Kurin and the dragon banked round and flew in a cross pattern again blasting the vessel and severely damaging it. The vessel began to catch fire and slowing head forward. Seeing another vessel nearby the Dragon flew at it scaring it away fleeing from the town and the battle before flying back to the original ship and breathing on it again sending it crashing to the ground with all on board dead.

Azimi flew at her vessel, flying up and up before stopping some 150 feet above the deck of the vessel (2 ballista attempted to shoot her but missed badly) and sending a Fireball into it’s midst, slaying all within it’s area and setting the deck and parts of the oil alight. As the crew attempted to rush to put out the fire, Azimi summoned an enormous firewall that spread over 1200 square feed of the deck, setting even more of the ship alight and stopping the crew from putting the fire out. The Captain of the boat emerged and apparently being a cleric cast a dispel magic spell putting the wall of fire out. Azimi targeted him with a lightning bolt sending it directly on top of him causing him to retreat into the boat as Azimi flew down and cast another fireball into the boat’s midst. The vessel began to pitch forward to begin to crash as the captain surprisingly survived and dispelled the Fly spell holding Azimi aloft. As she pitched forward with a crying start, using the power of an elementalist, grabbed hold of the smoke to stay aloft from the vessel and watched as it crashed down, near the pit building. Azimi realizing her limited time began to quickly climb down the smoke some 90’ each round.

Ragnar flew with the power of Azimi toward another vessel, casting a Berserk spell on himself. Arriving on the deck he immediately crashed through the vessel’s main hatch and then ran up stairs to arrived not at the captain’s deck (as he had hoped) but into the midst of some 8 marines. With Berserk range he spend three rounds chopping all 8 marines into kindling. One marine had attempted to cast a spell on Ragnar but lept overboard instead has his spell reversed. Ragnar ran down stairs looking for the enemy captain, seeing a corridor with crew he took out his horn of blasting and slew all the crew in the corridor and blew the end door open with a massive toot. The Captain stood surprised as he didn’t know that anyone was on board. Ragnar charged down the corridor and within 10 seconds hit the enemy captain 3 times slaying him outright. The two remaining helmsmen were very easily intimidated into surrendering the vessel to stop it attacking and land the ship.

The Tipsy Tyrant as it flew towards another enemy vessel was blasted by a disintegrate spell fired from the mouth of the bird like ships before coming aside and using the rope of climbing, grappled the vessel with an amazingly luck attempt. Sven, turning himself invisible crept on board. A berserk Thorsgrim and short Skrogg jumped on board, while Brother Stargard slid down the rope. As two different groups of Heldannic warbirds marines where engaged by Thorsgrim and Skrogg, Stargard jumped easily up to the top deck to engage 8 Marines up there. Soon all marines on deck were chopped, smashed and hit to pieces by the three heroes. Sven still crept down into the deck to find the enemy captain and then watched him start the self destruct, before attempting to backstab him. The heroes up top heard the cries and headed down stairs, slaying 8 sailors without fuss. As Sven fought bravely, a fear spell affected him and he sprinted up the corridor past his friends saying the ship was going to explode. Stargard and Skrogg charged down the corridor ending the wounded captains life and the two marines in the room. A dilemma now stood for the Skrogg, Thorsgrim and Stargard on how to escape an “exploding” ship. After initially discussing jumping from the ship, Sven screamed that he had the rope for the grappling of the vessels free and to jump. All three attempted and successfully jumped grabbing the rope before the Heldannic vessel began to drop down and not explode. With everyone on board the Tipy Tyrant Sven blamed the word “explode” on the fear spell, and the resulting panic wasn’t his fault.

As the only remaining vessel retreated the heroes had saved the say, and had personally accounted for 4 of the vessels who had attack the town. However, it came to pass that during the confusion of the raid all the Ngoti(?) conscripts had escaped on the confusion and then even worse the pit itself and route to Alphatia collapsed. Keltor Serban had apparently orchestrated the raid to free the native people, and the heroes silently appreciated the gesture. The Heroes were then asked to get help for the garrison, via a tunnel machine or via a skyship. The choice was decided to take the Gnomish tunnel machine for 2 months. During the time in the cramped tunnel machine, the heroes got to know each other very well indeed. Without the magical interludes of illusionary walls, Skrogg singing the trip could well have been a disaster, but thankfully they emerged at the surface only to find some 5 mages teleport nearby to find out what had happened. Keltor had apparently aready arrived and vanished with some escaped peoples and gone off. The mages then asked to teleport the heroes to the imperial capital to meet the Empress. Everyone left except for Ragnar who had to be told to take his ring off.

Punish the poor

Skrogg’s Journal – Chapter 30

As much as Azimi likes to report of success the latest escapade sat uncomfortably in her stomach.

The heroes did arrive in the military town of Heldemar, broken into districts (skyships, military, stockade, the pit where they burrowed out of, a civilian sector and the unfortunately re-education centre), contact was made through the staff to Mr Immortal Rheddrian who asked them to carry on and confirmation that magic didn’t work properly. Azimi was forced to speak Elven to communicate. The priests of Thor and Dwarven Immortal had to work very hard to receive their spells.

In a couple of weeks they were asked to go out and pacify a Nogata? something village to evaluate their skills. Poor peasant Skrogg disapproved along with Kurin and contemplated desertion. However, being lawful types they had agreed to go so their word is their bond. The local Neathar tribe apparently had been resisting the lawful and just (cough) Aegarian crusade and needed to be captured and re-educated. Thanks to Azimi’s navigation skill the path to the village was found.

As they approached Sven understood their language who had said “intruders” and four warriors approached the heroes an the accompanying arm fellows (all wearing red). Sven communicated the displeasure of seeing only stone weapons and no armour by shooting the front runner in the head with his heavy crossbow. The other warriors attacked as more village warriors armed themselves. Azimi courageously flew up into the air to avoid any unfortunate spear accidents. Thorsgrim blessed everyone. The heroes set about themselves with great joy knocking out all the village warriors who came at them. The regular army red shirts where having a very difficult time and Azimi began to throw dust into the air putting some to sleep with powerful sleep spells. After 17 slumped to the ground asleep, and the heroes knocked out many the rest of the warriors fled. However, the villages had released six dinosaur riding warriors at the party. These were big beasts with very sharp teeth. The sergeant incharge of this operation ordered that the villages be stopped from fleeing. As Azimi flew in the air she using magic unseen by the stone age village caused a mighty wall of fire some 200 yards long to trap the villages as the dinosaurs began to chomp at the party. Ragnar received a mighty wound causing everyone to gasp at the large teeth marks. Skrogg began to bash one to submission, likewise Ragnar. Kurin and Thorsgrim set to work chopping and hewing at the big beasts. Seeing the danger everyone now faced, Azimi cast a haste spell on her friends, but before it could take effect Ragnar was chopped, and scratched to unconsciousness. An extra beast had eaten a red shirt and had turned it’s attention onto Ragnar as well. The blurring swords of Sven and Thorsgrim finally bashed down their beast before, Thorsgrim rushed to the aid of Ragnar with a Cureall Spell. Skrogg bashed his dinosaur unconscious, as the rider above fell off and died of a broken neck. Kurin chopped his down as Azimi’s polymorph spell failed to work. As only two beasts were left they remaining dinosaurs were attacked from all sides. But as Ragnar arose from the ground the dinosaur popped him into it’s mouth and then began to do the same to Thorsgrim with out much fuss. Luckily Skrogg was there to knock his second beast out as Brother Stargard rushed up to ask if Thorgrim was wall right. With a display of gore, Ragnar with his head and neck inside the beast swung his sword four times and chopped the dinosaurs head clean off wearing the head and neck of the dinosaur like a great helm. The Rider fell off breaking his neck.

The village was rounded up after the wounds were seen too, by Thorsgrim and Kurin who could now almost cure all but death. The villages were led back to Heldemar for re-education much to the distress of Skrogg. Arriving back at Heldemar after a week of military drill and stupidity wearing short kilts the cleric accompanying them down to the hollow world had vanished, taking some gnomish tunnel digger craft and the heroes were brought into account. After being ridiculously questioned by officers the Alphatians agreed that the heroes new nothing of his vanishing. Obviously, the officers could no longer bear the worshipers of Thor attempting to convert them. The heroes were asked to go out a find trace of him. Thankfully after a day of walking through the jungle, a skyship “The Tipsy Tyrant” was used to likewise fail to find his whereabouts. The captain was a magic user and most of the crew marines were elves.

Arriving back to report their failure, they waited at Haldemar for their next mission, the lieutenant came running over saying that the they were about to be attacked by Heldannic flying vessels (warbirds) that look very cool and were hovering towards the outpost.

Skrogg’s Journal – Chapter 29

The heroes sailed into the port most of the ship births were empty. Thanks to the quick speaking of Sven he was able to communicate with the locals and it was decided to travel to the palace to discover what mystery was up and how to solve it. After walking through the city of Aegos, Skrogg was pick pocketed before directions were gathered and an expensive it was paid for by Azimi who was forced to drink milk as the vikings quaffed wine and placed the empty vessels on their heads.

After directions were given to the Palace a chariot was sent and Azimi left to discover what was what. After speaking to the prince Azimi enlisted the other heroes into the army so they could explore the world without hassel. Skrogg was most put out as he was the least paid. The following morning they were sent a caravan that would take them into the hinterland. Several other individuals were sent as well including a cleric with a two handed sword by the name of Keltor.

As the caravans traveled down the road uneventfully for several days Sven spotted several huge foot prints nearby. As he investigated, three trolls emerged from the forest side and closed to within 40 yards until someone noticed that their cup of water began to shake. Of course looking up they saw the three trolls approach, but one was a mighty beast at least twice the height of a regular troll. Kurin and Skrogg engaged one troll as Keltor and the other mercenaries attacked the troll coming from the rear flank as the remainder faced the massive beast approaching from the side of the wagon train. Azimi sent a mighty fireball only to watch it explode with almost little damage on the mighty beast. Sven shot it as Ragnar, Stargard, and Thorsgrim attacked it. It wrenched the armour of Ragnar, as he and brother Stargard spinning the mighty staff struck it mightily. The beasts wounds (except for the fireball) closed at an alarming rate. As Skrogg and Kurin stuck the smaller troll down, Thorsgrim froze it with a hold spell. Azimi attempted to Freeze the large beast with a Hold Monster spell only to see it ignore it easily. The great beast tore at Brother Stargard, but he was miraculously healed by a Cureall spell from Thorsgrim. Sven after turning invisible returned to backstab the beast, only to see it turn to face him. Ragnar the hero interposed himself receiving more mighty wounds. Azimi blasted the beast with her now famous Fire fingers injuring it. As the beast turned back to the little people bothering it, Throsgrim again Curealled Ragnar, as Sven, Skrogg, Kurin, Ragnar and Stargard all bashed the beast to the ground. It’s wounds closed with amazing quickness (except for the fire damage of course), causing a initiative race to see who could bash the creature down before it could rise again. Azimi jumped off the caravan and drew a summoning circle and soon began to summon a Fire Elemental. The Fire elemental under the direct control of Azimi began to burn the big beast. Ragnar, Skrogg and Kurin ran towards the remaining troll bashing it down. The elemental soon burnt through all the trolls and was dispelled back to it’s own plane by Azimi.

Tracks from the beast led to a lair nearby, where a pile of copper, gold and odd treasure was found, this was retrieved and sent back to the caravans. The caravans continued on their way back to the hinterlands. Arriving at a military outpost where a huge tunnel had been dug and some kind of cabled boxes were being lowered down. The heroes were ordered to travel down. The “elevator” ride took some time passing through molten lava before, weightlessness and then reversing and carrying down all the way to a underground world called hollow world. A Lieutenant something met the enlisted heroes and began a debrief. They were informed that magic didn’t work the same down there with no hold, divination, transportation or summoning spells working. Azimi silently wept a tear as almost all her useful spells stopped working. A history of how Hollow world was discovered and currently threats to the Alphatian empire included the native stone weapon wielding people and of course the Thyatian Empire. Specific mention of their Skyships was mentioned, and like many american movies, no script plot points are wasted.

Skrogg’s Journal – Chapter 28

As the brave x heroes of Ravenholm sailed from the village, waving goodbye to the well wishes they traveled down the coast with incredibly favourable winds powered by the concentrating Azimi who sat in the bow. After a days travel they arrived at the docks of Brinsforth (made new and shiny by magic) and were greeted by Rollo the seneschal who invited heroes with a wide range of titles to a feast in the great hall. Of course almost all the standing army of Brinsforth were on hand to provide an escort. But who could not be impressed with 40 men at arms. The Jarldom of Brinsforth put on a substantial feast as honour provided with Azimi having to foot the bill. The next day was the public holiday where Azimi teleported back to the Royal Palace to act as Thorhella again publicly.

The Thor’s Holy Wrath left sailing down the coast towards Ylaraum and then began to sail across the Great Western ocean towards Thyatis. In Thyatis controlled Ylaraum, Tel Akhir, Sven picked up more information from his spy ring as Azimi purchased some comfortable cushions. It was also reported that apparently the Heldannic Knights invaded Ethengar slaughtering Ethengarian encampments. After dealing with the Ethengar during the Crown of Ancient Glory (and kidnapping of Svens twins) the wolves just shrugged their shoulders and basically said “cool”.

On the way the navigation went slightly off with a short detour but soon could see the Thyatian continent ahead of them. Unfortunately, 5 War Galleys were spotted, but with Azimi controlling the wind they were easily out run as the Thors Holy Wrath sailed towards the port of West Portage. A dragon turtle was spotted with the brave heroes not deciding to attack a floating steam breathing island and avoided any combat.

At the West Portage (in Tthyatis controlled Isle of Dawn), maps were purchased, and more information about world political events were picked up. A bunch of Glantrians were assassinated by some very high level magic users in the disguise of Alphatia. This triggered some bemused looks as when assassinating you don’t wear clothes advertising who you are. This was reported to Rheddian via the staff Brother Starkad carried.

The Thor’s Holy Wrath sailed along the coastline towards the town of Yin Tang on the island of Ochalea. Again at the docks Sven met with some plain individuals and reported that more political maneuvering has been taking place. Apparently the Glantrians demanded justice from Alphatia. Surprisingly the Emperor of Thyatis stuck his oar into the mix blaming Alphatia for the death of the Gilantrian emissaries. Henceforth they would not allow Alphatia to to extend her teritorial holdings. Resting after their long voyage, it’s now 8th of Ambyrmont 1004AC, Thorsgrim, Ragnar and Kurin all fell sick without the ability to cast spells as their gods abandoned them for a brief period (one week). Azimi had teleported home after spending almost 2 months at sea in a perfectly weatherly, mostly dry boat. Azimi rejoined them at the end of the week, and with Sven brought more bad news, Asterius’s temples had been burned in Alphatia which had been blamed on Glantrian Elves, but like in General Torenals murder ( Thorsgrims Story) their memory had been altered. Also the Glantrians who had been blamed for his murder had escaped but in doing so had half destroyed the Alphatian air ship armada in Aasla (Alphatia) and most of the City, along with its population.

They continued sailing towards Aegos, but encountered 4 water Elemental’s who destroyed the Elemental blowing their ship. As the elemental’s attacked Ragnar strode out to hit one and they rushed to attack and miss him and Kurin, and were unable to even affect Azimi (thanks to the staff). Thorsgrim with a magical dispel evil, dissipated one, and the three remaining fled, thanks to the spell. Azimi zapped one most cruelly with magical fire bolts which caused much steam.

The Thors Holy Wrath eventually pulled into the empty docks of Aegopoli, capitol of Aegos, news had spread and Sven confirmed the worst, Glantri, the Heldannic Knights and Thyatis were now at war with Alphatia. With the two greatest political powers now at war, the world was going to the dogs… 19th Ambyrmont 1004AC.

Skrogg’s Journal – Chapter 27
THE 12 TRIALS OF RAGNAR RAGNARSONSON

After a four year hiatus the Heroes gathered again in the now booming town of Ravenholm to discuss their exploits and catch up on the gab of 4 years. Much had changed, Ravenholm had grown to some 266 families, only a small dwarven community remained, but the fleet of Olaf Pin-leg now consisted of 3 Dragonships. (Not counting Ragnar’s THORS HOLY WRATH).

Talk was heavy as events of the past were told, of foes defeated, family rescued, murder, marriage and heroism. But the stories also told of an evil wind was blowing, for empires were at each others throats and Vestland sits in the middle.

Skrogg’s Journal – Chapter 26

As wine and mead were ordered a visitor they last saw some almost 4 years ago appeared at the door to the tavern, Rheddrian the ex green man from behind the shiny mirror. He appeared to be well recovered and apologized as he cast detection spells and warding spells to stop from being magically spied upon.

He revealed that all was not well in the realms and several immortals are involved as the whole nature of Mystara was at stake as magic was being drained from the world. He asked the heroes to investigate (of course being good “guys” they readily agreed). He suggested that they first investigate a land called Aegos (south of the Isle of Dawn, some 2200miles away) where something was up.

It was agreed that in three days hence they would meet to travel together in THORS HOLY WRATH (Ragnars Dragonship) towards the island. Azimi, known publicly as Thorhella, promised to sit with her legs crossed in a meditative state controlling the winds allowing for smooth passage towards the far off land land….
